Here's what I said yesterday: <<But I'm sure the management of Google believes in Gmail as a 'hub' for Google's collaborative and social services (...) Is there any reason why there should be a standalone Docs list? Why should we do to docs.google.com to get a list of all our files, and then move on to anther tab to access to actual document?>> http://www.google.com/buzz/115880905881518206826/bp9z7ekdckb/What-I-dont-like-about-the-new-Gmail-the-links-to http://imgur.com/Gp3Fp

If they graduate this lab, I bet they'll add a tab for Docs below Mail and above Contacts and Tasks. |
Here's how I imagine they'll make Gmail a 'social and work hub' integrating most Google services, where Mail will 'just be one tab'.
Social services will have the top spot with Mail, Contacts and Buzz – soon renamed/replaced by Me. I guess Voice will have its own tab, but accessible via Chat (with video conferencing).
Then, Photos, Calendar will appear, along with Games.
That's how Google will have built a solid Facebook challenger, competing with every Facebook products – Contacts, Photos, Video, Events, Chat, Wall and Games....
But "Docs in Gmail" will be the killer app, as it will be popular for both personal and business use. Gmail – aka Google Apps – will be the new 'Office'. That's where million of friends, students and employees will spend most of their time.
All those users may want to listen to some music while working and socializing, don't you think? |
There is already a "Docs Gadget" in Gmail Labs. It "Adds a box in the left column which displays your Google Docs. Shows recent docs, starred docs, and has fast search". |
