Why can't I have Gmail at work?

So when I'm at work and type www.gmail.com I get the message that I have no authorisation for that page. But if search google for gmail, and click on gmail's page, it opens fine! I know that many sites aren't accesible from work, but why does gmail open only if i search it?

Gmail's address is http://mail.google.com/ (or https://mail.google.com/). Try one of these addresses. Probably only gmail.com is blocked.

Because your IT manager is probably blocking it. Try the sites Ionut suggested.

Ionut's 2nd link points to SSL version, i.e. https: / / mail dot google dot com/

they look totally similar, because forum software cuts prefixes http and https.
