Dennis was the creator of the C programming language and its first compiler. Much software today is written in C or C++. Many other computer languages have been influenced by the C language.
Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie were the creators of the Unix operating system. Note that many of the popular operating systems and software tools today are either versions of Unix or clones of Unix. Other operating systems have copied or ported features or software from Unix.
