As a work around you can make a bookmark named "home" and use it instead of the home button.
If your start page is also affected you can make your own html file named "chrome2.html" that redirects to a page of your choosing. Instead of starting the chrome program directly you can open the file "chrome2.html".

Was your copy of chrome preinstalled? Was it downloaded directly from Google? Does it have any addons, plugins, or hacks installed?
Try uninstalling or disabling all plugins, addons, and hacks. Does this solve the problem? If so avoid the offending modification.
If that didn't solve the problem download a fresh copy of chrome directly from Google. You may need to uninstall the old copy or install the new copy with a different name in a different directory. Test it before installing any modifications such as plugins and addons.
