I'm trying to get this Dugg. http://digg.com/links/Verizon_:_Support_Google_Calendar_
Verizon, you need to start allowing your SMS system to communicate to all the Web 2.0 Apps. I can handle it when I go to website and I'm unable to send the message to my phone. But now! I can't use a major feature and I want this to change!
|
Justin, actully SMS has been turned off for cl2
"Phone notifications disabled."
|
I think Justin is referring to the fact that Verizon is not supported at all: http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=37226&topic=8568
even if you turn on notifications. |
Niraj, That's what I'm talking about. I notice often that Verizon seems to not be available when a website offers a SMS feature, especially google features. I doubt that Google wants to single Verizon out. I'm sure Verizon isn't enabling something. That's just a guess though. They love disabling stuff, like the Wifi in there Phones ;) |
I devised a work around for Verizon Wireless customers. Basiclly, you turn on email reminders and set up a filter in Gmail (or whatever email program) to Forward any emails from calendar-notificationgoogle.com. Forward these emails to areacode+numbervtext.com. More details at: http://parodybag.net/archives/2006/04/19/google_calendar_event_notifications_for_verizon_wireless_customers.php |
A better workaround for verizon support is using T-Mobile instead... I've been getting messages just fine :) |
Nick, nice find. I found this T-Mobile trick out myself but I couldn't find this thread easy enough so I just started another one.. Now we have this advice posted in 2 sections of the Blogoscoped. Since there are many Verizon users, I imagine this will help out a lot of people. |
Thanks guys, the T-Mobile fix worked for me. Wish I knew why they don't support Verizon Wireless. Only thing I can think of is that Verizon DSL has some deal with Yahoo. Just a thought....... |
just to update anyone reading this but Google Calendar has updated their SMS notifications to include Verizon now. |
