You can search in spam folder by using 'is:spam' -search modifier. For example: 'is:spam rolex'.

Searching Spam and Trash is also an available option in the 'more options' panel

Silly me. You'd think I'd look into the advanced search options before I ramble about a missing feature.
The most intuitive thing I could come up with was opening the spam folder, and then doing a search – I somehow suspected this must trigger the spam search if there is any.
Thanks a lot Kevin.

If not an excuse, I think I found a perfect explanation for what I did (convincing myself that clicking on "Spam", then searching, was *the* best way to do this, I gave up on alternatives) in what Nielsen said recently:

"Users will often overlook the actual location of information or products if another website area seems like the perfect place to look."
