for example,
gmail.com" rel="nofollow" style="display: inline-block; max-width: 300px; overflow: hidden">https://mail.google.com/mail/photos/Philipp.Lenssengmail.com
replace email address with any other gmail address
I just figured this out.. seems like kinda a privacy invasion type of thing..
not that I care.
try mine, s l o t h s , minus spaces of course
also, it only works with the login name, ie plus addressing and periods don't work. |

I tried it with an address and it showed the pic I set to him. |

mine doesnt work orphandland it redirects itself to a blue ghost picture https://mail.google.com/mail/images/blue_ghost.jpg |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
Yep, it works! Here's the photo of one of the recent persons from the Turkish spam attack: gmail.com" rel="nofollow" style="display: inline-block; max-width: 300px; overflow: hidden">https://mail.google.com/mail/photos/artunkutlukgmail.com
As I've enabled "Visible only to people I can chat with", I'm wondering if it my pic is visible to anyone through the URL above?
Hmm, does anyone know why it sometimes shows "red ghosts" or "blue ghosts" and at other times "yellow ghost" replacement images? |
David Hetfield | 18 years ago # |
no Philipp.. i dunno and it redirects me to this URL: https://mail.google.com/mail/images/yellow_ghost.jpg
|
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
You can't see the Turkish email photo above David? |
David Hetfield | 18 years ago # |
noap i get a Yellow Ghost instead |
/pd | 18 years ago # |
colur difference ? could it be b'coz of the underlying palette of another page ??
above URL I see a ghost only image... |
David Hetfield | 18 years ago # |
and i chat with you quite often... : |

I have also wondered about the backgrounds. Contacts on my list show as red, blue, and yellow, with no apparent pattern. The help center and newsgroup don't seem to mention this. |

The ghost images for reference:

/pd | 18 years ago # |

I just saved the pic, It ports it out well with the original format too!! :)- |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
> i asked if you can upload the photo to a link.. > so i would be able to see it :)
Nah, if it's private it ought to stay that way :) |
David Hetfield | 18 years ago # |
private? dont think so.. my picture isnt private, and somehow i cant see it.. :/
but, choise is yours.. :) |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
The picture of the Turkish man doesn't show for you so for some reasons Google didn't make it public. So that why I don't want to make it public... |
David Hetfield | 18 years ago # |
then how come mine isnt public?
maybe i need to change my Gmail settings? |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
You don't really know whether or not it's public unless you log out of Google and clear your cookies/ cache... |
David Hetfield | 18 years ago # |
<<clear your cookies/ cache>>
im not gonna do that..! last time i did that the Gmail has gone mad.. :/
|
CJ Millisock | 18 years ago # |
I can't see anyone's picture. I always get redirected to one of the aforementioned ghosts. :-) |
Jamie | 18 years ago # |
I was able to see his picture by clicking "Contacts" on the left, then "Add contact", then filling in the email address and clicking save. The URL of the picture that displayed for me is very similar to the one Philipp posted above. |
justin flavin | 18 years ago # |
odd. even though phillip is in my contacts list, i dont see his picture – i just get a yellow ghost pic.
here's my photo – its the KDE dragon...
gmail.com" rel="nofollow" style="display: inline-block; max-width: 300px; overflow: hidden">https://mail.google.com/mail/photos/justinfgmail.com

David Hetfield | 18 years ago # |
Philipp isnt on my contact list.. but i can see his picture..
someone should ask Google / Gmail about it.. :/ |
Haochi | 18 years ago # |
I think you can't see it unless that contact its in your contact list...or something like that. |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
I see your dragon Justin... |
David Hetfield | 18 years ago # |
<<I think you can't see it unless that contact its in your contact list...or something like that.>>
so how come i can see Philipp's picture?! little odd.. isnt it? |
Haochi | 18 years ago # |
This is what it says on GMail's setting. "Visible to all Gmail users or Visible only to people I can chat with" I will guess it's based on your setting.../maybe not. gmail.com" rel="nofollow" style="display: inline-block; max-width: 300px; overflow: hidden">https://mail.google.com/mail/photos/chen.haochigmail.com -allow all gmail.com" rel="nofollow" style="display: inline-block; max-width: 300px; overflow: hidden">https://mail.google.com/mail/photos/haochi.chengmail.com -not allow all also, you have to sign in to see the pic. |
David Hetfield | 18 years ago # |
<<mail.google.com/mail/photos/ch ... -allow all>>

<<mail.google.com/mail/photos/ha ... -not allow all>>

<<also, you have to sign in to see the pic.>> sign in to? where? Gmail? isnt it?! |
