While I'm reading some threads that I still had to read, I'm comin' accross all kinds of regional stuff: * Google * National days * Gmail module that is working in some regions and not in others * 4D Earth * Etc.
Philipp, if ever you would be in need of seeding your creativity. Here's a suggestion. Maybe in one way or an other there can be a manner to display on Google Maps or on Google Earth, the regional activity in this forum. It could be done based on IP or by linking the forum members manually to the region they choose...
Well that's it for my creativity on sunday morning ;-) |
Oh maybe even have a kinda frapper map that folks can opt in too..but I like Art's suggestion, but i would cull the data based on IP and render it on on a Gmap.-- but I would like to see two different colour pins actually, one for the Main pages and one for the fourm.. |
It would be interesting to see what extent of a global drawing this forum has. I don't know if you want to just have the map displayed when the thread is started. Some people may have some privacy concerns. What if you set it up so that after say ten post in a thread the map link was displayed. Great idea Art-One :) |
I briefly had Google Analytics on this site (a day or two or so) and this map was the result, back in November 2005:

Very interesting results. If you look at the countries matched, I'm sure it would look different today, because some countries that are in the forum now are not yet on the map.
There is also a big presence in the UK. Bigger than all the rest. Any reason for that? |
Weird. The image has a "display:none" in Firefox, but it's visible in IE. |
Whoops. Adblock triggered a false alarm. I wonder why. |
There are so many users in mountain view, since that is where everyone who uses Google Web Accelerator gets mapped out to be. |
Could that mean BTW that the big presence in the UK is also a gateway of some kind of proxy? |
