Bill Gates Introducing MSN Search  (View post)

There are a few things I noted.

Searching from http://www.msn.com/ sends you to the "beta" URL and still has tracking codes on the results link. (Searching from http://search.msn.com/ keeps you on that domain.)

The clever "geo" stuff is annoying to say the least. MSN are assuming that just because I live in the UK, I want to use the "search.msn.co.uk" domain. Even when I changed this to ".com" it redirected me back to the ".co.uk" version. (I eventually figured about I had to click "Back to search.msn.com" on the "search.msn.co.uk" home page.)

Unlike Google, searching from the ".co.uk" domain provides very different results, although not the same as when you check the "Only from United Kingdom" checkbox.

It's all too confusing for my liking.

Agreed. Forced geo-location would be a reason for me to say good-bye to a search engine... especially, as you mention, when the results are so different. What if I prefer "global" results?

And, interestingly, it filters out AOL members' webpages, but will show the numerous pages that link to them.
