I guess the service that would make most sense is a searchable news-archive. I think a lot of people would use such a service and it is 100% within Googles mission statement. |
Searching news archives has to be much more difficult than a regular search. Imagine how many articles are based on the same keywords. Also, how would this be any different than plain ol' Googling while adding keywords for Reuters or AP? |
Good followup – this issue is very interesting in the ongoing "old media" versus "new media" battle – GoogleZon may be prophetic ... ;-) http://www.masternewmedia.org/news/2004/11/29/summary_of_the_world_googlezon.htm |
I'm concerned about Google forming relationships with specific news organizations. When it comes to news, I think it is important to have a variety of sources, and I don't want to see one specific company favored for reasons of potential bias, perspective, or even what that organization chooses to cover.

Got it. So they're competing fully against Yahoo News. Will they also add Blog Search to it and Finance (like someone in Google once said. I can't remember the name, it was around the time when Google was criticised for inspiring half baked innovation) |
Marissa recently said they want to create "megacities" as opposed to distinct unconnected towns... like San Angeles :) ... so they're looking for ways to integrate tools into e.g. Google News. Not sure if that's what you mean Sohil... |
Ya that's what I meant. Hope it stays simple though. |
It would be awesome if there is one place where i can get all the news about my community or local town pulled from various newpapers, blogs, forums and community. Are you aware of any such, where i put my zip and get the news? |
