So about every 11 days or so, a "Google-Sitemaps/1.0" checker comes by to confirm I have the "authentication file" setup. No problem and kinda expected. But I'm curious if others see the same IP address – for me, it has always been 64.233.172.21
While Googlebot can have lots of different IP's, I'm wondering (idle curiousity I guess) if they have this Google Service "distributed" ... or just from a single IP.
And I'm assuming they just overlooked their DNS since a reverse DNS lookup is unresolvable ... and if I do a traceroute, the last resolveable IP address is a Level3 router in San Jose ... but the next 4 hops don't resolve. ARIN does show it is in a netblock owned by Google. |
This month, they've used 64.233.172.24 and 64.233.172.28 to check my website. |
