From the Search Engine Watch blog
<quote> Matt Cutts of Google wrote at his blog, and I quote;
Most bloggy sites tend to have words from the title of a post in the url; having keywords from the post title in the url also can help search engines judge the quality of a page. </quote>

I've heard this argument before and seem to remember people suggesting that this is only true because people often use the URL as the actual link text, meaning the words of the title would therefore appear in the link text... |
Or maybe its a bug in the way google ranking works!!
Just because my Page title is blank should not impliy to the ranking engine that the page content is crappy. FWIW , the content could be ofa very high qaulity.. |
/pd: I agree. This method would harm a site as big as Slashdot! (And simultaneously benefit digg). I like having a simple number to reference an article as the resulting URL is much shorter.
How much weight is really put on link anchor text? |
Note that Matt didn't say whether words in the URL *improve* or *lower* your rankings... in both cases it would be an indicator of the quality of a page (e.g. "too many words in a domain indicate spam").
My opinion on keyword-stuffed URLs...: http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2004_12_16_index.html#110319093917011691 |
Correct Niraj, that could be an algo issue!!
Change Managment to the core algos' can cause a disruptive wave across the ranking model. The Risk is VERY high, so the offset , could be to encourage traction on URL /titles combos' and continue to move the community into the model which is sustainable.
In simple terms , Why should the "title of a post in the url" have any impact on the "quailty of a page" inference ?
For e.g I am pretty sure that a title like "honeypot" with a content based on "bees , honey creation, horticulture like page", will certainly show up in SERP for a term like "Network Honeypots" ..
maybe I should POC this ...:)- |
