Hmm. Does anyone think that they will use this for anything?

Oh and does anyone use Google Notebook for anything now?

I don't use Google Notebook...

Do you use an alternative resource? Like del.icio.us? Or do you just use your browser bookmarks?

I've just started using Google Notebook actually. What for? Making notes of Christmas present ideas for my girlfriend... ;-)

I use a local temp.txt. Most of the stuff I find interesting ends up on Google Blogoscoped of course :) If it's private but I need web access to it, I use Quickdat* notes in a password-protected HTTPS folder on my server...

Here's an online demo of Quickdat – feel free to create tables, papers, calendar events...

I find it pretty useful for a couple of things:

1) Code snippet repository – handy place to store little chunks of code I use a lot. Helpful if you're a contractor and some of your clients don't let you plug in a USB drive...

2) Link aggregator with context. Handy for putting together links on a given subject (like a Google service, or a new Sony product) where the content is as important (or more so) than the link. I have a pretty thorough Notebook on the Sony UX Micro PC.

3) Blog link amalgamator. For longer blog posts I use Notebook to put together all the links I'm going to refer to in my blog posts. Means I can work on the post when I'm away from my home PC.

Don't know if the collaboration is going to help with any of these though...

As posted to the Google Blogoscoped notebook:

http://www.google.com/notebook/public/16341200977093356787/BDRgSSwoQ24Knz94h

... trying to edit a notebook name with an apostrophe doesn't work properly. It seems that's because Google aren't escaping or encoding the name when you edit it. Try this as an example:

1. Create a new notebook and enter the following as a name (including all quotes, etc.):

' onblur="alert(document.cookie);"><input type='hidden

2. Then select "Rename notebook" from the "Actions..." drop down.

3. Click out of the name field and read the contents of your Google.com cookie in the alert box!

(There are many other possibilities too, of course.)

I'm not sure if this could be abused at all... just thought I'd mention it.

[Edit – "onfocus" changed to "onblur" as "onfocus" causes problems for some users.]

That is very silly of them. The sam ething happened with netscape just a few months ago.

I would say don't try it if you are on a Mac using Firefox. The contents of the alert box is so huge you cant see the OK button (so you have to quite your browser).

I love the look of QuickDat. I am putting that on a secure folder on my site right now – thanks!

Can't you just press the ESC key?

Sam Davyson [PersonRank 10]

ESC makes the box go, and then immediately reappear for me.

(Ooops. I guess the "onfocus" gets called again... and again... and again...)

Your school blocks google.com? I'm surprised they bother to provide computers, in that case.

They blocked every thing at one point then they started adding sites to the "allowed list". They have now added .co.uk (on Friday) but not .com which I belive is to stop people going on Google Video.
Here's my notebook of un-blocked sites (that's me trying to stay on topic :-))

I use it whenever I'm at work and I need to make a to-do list for things at home.

I also use it to compile information from my online class so I know what's due and when it is due.

Usually for websites I just use a draft message in gmail as I constantly have that open to take advantage of it's gchat feature while at work.

I doubt I'll use the new chat feature for notebook, I think I'll just wait till I get an account for Writely.

thats dumb!
cant they block access to the computer? using a special software or something?, (you know, so the kids wont be touching the computer while the teacher is speaking) and when he or she is done talking, release the computer block...?
they can block porn & gamb, ling sites.. but they cant block the entire net! and of course not Google! thats crazy!

i think you should tell someone about that!

<<cant they block access to the computer?>>

Yes and they often still do this because there's always something to do wit a PC

<<they can block porn & gamb,ling sites>>
When this was brought up their reply was "Every time we block a gameing site another 3 pop up"

As soon as the ban on all sites was put in I objected against Google and Wikipedia being blocked (Thankfuly I can get to them now even though many google serveses are still unavalible)
Still I can live with it for another 8 months I suppose. Still got the net at home.

I totally use Google Notebook. If you want to Clip stuff to share, Try Clipmarks. It's the best.

However if you are researching something for an assignment, Google Notebook is totally usable.
