I currently have my site hosted at Lycos.nl. But it is going to expire 27 October, and I can only extend it with a year. So about a month ago I got an account with godaddy for just one month. But now I notice that my website is suddenly much faster.

Is it possible that they increase the speed of my site just before it expires? What hosting providers do guys you use? Should I go with godaddy? Which one is faster for you:

and is there a more scientific approach to test the speed?

FWIW, the 2nd image loaded much faster for me.

I assume you've tried doing pings and traceroutes to both servers? Also, you could take a look at http://www.dnsstuff.com for other ways to test speed, such as DNS lookup timings, etc.

I use Windows hosting on http://www.Fasthosts.co.uk and more recently http://www.GoDaddy.com too – both of which seem to be quite fast and reasonable.

GoDaddy is quite cheap for the features they offer, but I find their control panels less than intuitive sometimes. Once you've got used to them, they're fine though.

(I know a few people on this forum us http://www.DreamHost.com but that wasn't really an option for me as I needed Windows hosting.)

Both were fast for me.

Thanks, I will stay with Lycos for now. It's just to much trouble to change the site.
