This is massive! And seems to have gone a miss for the past few hours...
Blogger Beta gets a massive update!

Looks like I can finally make my new blog...with FTP access :) |
Odd.. the old log-in screen is back, that even Google was ashamed of...

They call it feature complete and I can't even migrate to it... strange. |
Weird... the log-in screen is back to the new one again. Looks like I spotted the mistake... |
It looks like Google is rebuilding blogger from back to front. They will probably change the looks after this beta went online. Baby-steps... |
I get this message if I try to change to FTP publishing:
<< Hint:If you want to publish to an external FTP server, you will have to turn off ACLs and use a Classic Template. >>
So, it looks like some of their more advanced features won't be available for FTP-published blogs, as I expected... |
You won't have the page-creator features. But labels do work.
Maybe if you host page-creator via google apps for your domain this will begin to work. More integration is probably ahead.... |
Yeah, labels work in a basic way. It's disappointing to see that they don't have Atom/RSS feeds for labels though; surely that's one of the main benefits of labels to blog readers? |
Tony, the last time I checked there was no namespace assignment in the RSS/ATOM specs for 'labels' --not sure what the status is as of today.

In case anyone's interested, I've just discovered that you *can* get feeds for specific labels, it's just not documents for FTP-published blogs (AFAIK).
For BlogSpot blogs, it's documented here:
Can I get site feeds for specific labels? http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=53336
And here's how you do it for FTP-published blogs:
Simply edit this link (removing all spaces):
http:// beta.blogger.com/feeds/ [your-blog-id] /posts/default/-/ [your-label]
Replace [your-blog-id] with the Blogger ID of your blog (which you can find in the your source, your address bar when posting a comment, or one of numerous other ways) and [your-label] with the label you want the feed for.
So, for example, here's a feed for all my posts labeled with the word "google": http://beta.blogger.com/feeds/10596408/posts/default/-/google |
Cool, good advice, Tony. I'll have to get my blog together. |
