eh, the size of my inbox is still 2786 MB... |

3072 – 2786 = 286 MB
If I were Google I would make it 7 Gb on 1-1-2007 ;). |

If I were Google, I'd make your GMail limit increase every time you click on an ad :-)
Oh, hang on, that would be evil. |

<<If I were Google I would make it 7 Gb on 1-1-2007 ;).>> Let's say GDrive by April 1 2007. ;) |

infinite storage is very greedy

It will reach eventually, but right now there's 41 days left until it hits 2800MB. They haven't added the next time and limit to the array on the login page yet. Right now it is:
var CP = [ [ 1136102400000, 2680], [ 1149145200000, 2730], [ 1167638400000, 2800] ];
So by 41 days from now they have to add the next value they're going to count to. |

The Growth has slowed down a great deal. Maybe they'll reset it to 3 Gig on April 1st. |

Gmail is climbing up a mountain, the last part is very steep, so it goes very slow, but once they reach that top, size will go down again, and fast it will go for sure!
:P

Maybe they throw out another 10 gigs for new year's just to surprise everyone :) |

Yea...wasn't there something posted earlier this year, or hell, maybe LAST year even, that suspected that it would hit 3GB by New Years? I remember someone peeled apart that code and posted it somewhere, probably on digg or something :P |

I ran a calculation on my computer and it said that it would hit 3GB in 22 months, or nearly 2 years. This comes from a linear approximation to data gathered over the course of 10 minutes. |

or maybe they'll shove it in 30 gigs's face and jump to 100GB! hahaha that would be awesome |

And what about Picasa Web Albums? |

I think to get the same "oomph" they got from offering 1 GB back in 2004, they'd need to upgrate to offer a terabyte! I still remember reading the news on the 1 gigabyte email on my cell phone back then, after which I was shocked and delighted, and then I realized, "damn, it's April 1st! it's only an April Fool's joke". |

i have plenty of space. i would rather they increased the upload limit. 100MB? or is that unrealistic? |
David Hetfield | 17 years ago # |
id rather more storage on Picasaweb (plus video).. not Gmail.. |

Storage is cheap.
Flickr shows the way forward: don't put an upper limit on the storage, just put a limit on how much can be added each month, to avoid abuses (such as using the storage as a remote filesystem). |
