You can use this as an API:

http://www.checkpagerank.com/jscripts/js_pagerank.php?domain=googlesystem.blogspot.com

You'll get a small JS that contains the PageRank.

Or you could combine it with a service like:

http://www.changenotes.com/
and others: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=tmC&q=monitor+changed+pages&btnG=Search

I am not sure whether it's exactly that but UrlTrends offers you mail notification when your URL information changes. In the free offer it means that the info is updated once a month and then you get the e-mail. I can the paid services are more timely.

Nevertheless, you shouldn't care that much for your PageRank. I do as a SEO mostly for status reasons. most people judges SEOs based on PageRank, not knowing which criteria count nowadays.
Most notably you should check your link (domain) popularity.

Besides that Google exports PageRank not everywhere at once, the change start at one data center are more follow up. At first though the PR drops in many cases as the new data is exported and show the PageRank before the last update. So some people get almost a heart attack every time.

Many people buy PageRank nowadays. You need one PageRank 9 link to get PR8 like you have. Nevertheless this site won't rank in the search results without content and other links.

Here in Germany many of my competitors buy PageRank links successfully and outrank me. New sites get to the #1 top position beating 6,7 year old authority sites. But I guess Matt already works on that. Otherwise ethical SEOs will be forced off the market or they adapt to "what works".

Anyway, that external PR (what we see) is extremely irrelevant. For example, all my pages created since August last year have PR 0. I'm sure Google has calculated the PR, but it's just not visible for us.

Yes, as the visible PageRank is exported every 3 months your new pages will already have some but it won't be displayed yet.

We have one here at http://sitening.com/seo-tools/page-rank/

You have to have a free account to use it. After you run a PageRank check it will give you the option to be notified via RSS or Email.

Hmm, does Google have a "legal" way of finding out what the PageRank is for a page? and can it be taken with the Google Toolbar API ? (if so, please post a link to some documentation) I couldn't find it at the official site. Oh, and i mentioned "legal" because they might consider other types of rank checks "unauthorized" as they say here:

AFAIK there's no official API, I use the toolbar stuff, but it's not that easy, you have to calculate a check sum, etc (It's probably against the TOS).

Jon, I got a timeout just now for your URL. Then it worked...

We were working on our site off and on today which is probably why you got the timeout. But, yes everything should be working now.

On the matter of automated PR queries,
I've been wondering for weeks about a way to query for the PR without breaking the TOS. Right now I'm getting it from the toolbar server (I think), through an automated script. The tool works and gets about 500 hits a day, but I'm afraid of taking it any further until I get an ok from Google. (Is this fear reasonable?)

I asked in the Search API Google group, the Webmaster Central group, and then I email Google through their contact form. No replies.

Since they took down the API keys there seems to be no way to query Google internally, or is there? Anybody knows if there is something I'm missing? (I don't have an API key)

Thanks.

Thanks for the Post about RankAlert.
First I want to make this clear that you dont need Google SOAP API key to set an alert for Pagerank. You can simply register and add your site to get Pagerank Alerts through email. However if you need us to track your backlinks count too you need to provide the SOAP API key. Be assure your API key will not be abused or used otherwise.

[put at-character here] Jose Onate:

Jose you can not query Pagerank using API key, there is no way you can do that. Google unfortunately doesnt encourage any method to query PR other than the standard toolbar.
If you ask google and get a reply from them they will ask you to not to use any other tools except the toolbar for getting pagerank.

No accounts needed with the new 'Just e-mail it' function.
You only have too give you e-mailaddress and domain and you get an alert when you pagerank has changed.

This is pretty pointless. Usually Google exports those PR values every 3 months or more and when it happens, you'll know. So checking the value every hour won't help you too much.

Yeah i know but when google change the pagerank you get the information very quick.

RankAlert Checks Pagerank against 124 Datacenter, so it can notify the owner in an early stage of Pagerank value export... With this tool I was able to get the exact value of upcomming backlinks export about a month ago than the actual export (No kidding)..
