System failure and editing outage, October to December 2006
The ODP's main server suffered a "catastrophic" system failure[3] on October 20, 2006 and editors were unable to work on the directory until December 18, 2006[4]. During that period of time, an older build of the directory was visible to the public. The system is now located on a redundant configuration of two Intel-based servers[5] to prevent another such a situation in the future.
