This may be a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. How do you sort by sender in Gmail? In Outlook, for instance, you can click on the the "From" Column and sort all your inbox emails by sender. I know you can search in Gmail by any specific sender, but is there a comparable function to the Sort function I am familiar with that allows me to sort all my inbox, not just one sender?
Thanks!

No. Unfortunately not. Search, don't sort! ;-) |
Well, you can use a POP client and sort the email there. |
Thanks for the replies, guys.
That is the only feature that I miss from the likes of Outlook. The sort function would be a big help to me in wading through a lot of unread messages, but it sort of defeats the purpose and convenience of Gmail if I have to go the POP option to sort. I do have the POP option enabled for backup purposes.
Do others thing this would be a useful function, or am I the only one?
I just noticed yesterday that I can now receive my POP account into my Gmail account as well via the function that was announced a few weeks ago. That is what led the the question. I have several hundred messages now in Gmail that weren't there yesterday. :)

I only ever use this feature in Outlook when I want to find emails from a particular sender – and if I want to do this in Gmail, I can just search using the [from:] operator.
What is it you are trying to do that means this isn't good enough? |
It would be nice if Gmail clustered the search results by sender. You would get a list of the most important people who sent you messages relevant to that query.
Something similar to Google Scholar: http://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&lr=&q=b-tree+search&btnG=Search (look in the left sidebar). |
Agreed. Or some kind of [sort:] operator would be even better. Or they could just add column headings and little order by arrows like Outlook and other apps... |
The old Yahoo Mail has a new way to present search results and it's very cool:
