5-7 More Years: Google Leads Search

Please post your thoughts on this.

I will make a prediction that Google will lead and continue to be number on in search in terms of quality, and will remain number in market share for the following reasons:

1. Google has a head start on search research over MS, and Yahoo. They are sitting on technology that they have not deployed because of scaling issues, and quality issues. For example, they sat on technology from Kaltix for 4 years, before largely releasing it for personalized search. Most likely they have other technology or research they are sitting on either developed in-house, or from acquisitions.

2. Because of number one , above, they can quickly respond to any real threat from competition by simply dipping into their resources.

3. Google has more pure search data than the competition. They have been working with more indexed pages, more spam, and more user queries than their competition. This means they can more quickly test what new search algorithms work, and what doesn't on a larger data stream, making the test more reliable, quicker at identifying search patterns, and change in the *intent* of users in queries., etc.

4. Search related or Non -search related entries will eventually help to teach Google's system. Book scans feeds Google's system. User content from docs, email, video teaches google's system. The larger the stats google have to work with the better.

5. Google's brand. Nuff said.

6. Google is committed to search because it fuels their revenue. Bad quality ....less users...less money. For this reason, Google will quickly move against any threat. Any new startup with something revolutionary in this space will have a disadvantage because of the above. Google will either quickly replicate or acquire.

Only 5-7 more years though, since by that time Google would have defeated themselves like any other large company.

Your thoughts, anyone?
