Unfair Results at Contagious Media Showdown?

Several people noted that the fact the current leaders are displayed at the Contagious Media Showdown front-page strongly skews the results – because most people click on the first or first few results, giving leaders even more unique IPs in the ranking stats. I tend to agree: they as jury should have displayed them in random order whenever someone visits this page, until the contest is over. The current number one is now ahead 35,000 visitors, and we never know if that’s because he was in the top spot so quickly, or because the site actually worked well on its own idea.

On a related note, the Media Showdown server was under some strong stress lately. It’s possible not even they would have expected to be BoingBoinged, Waxyed, Slashdotted, Kottked, and so on. A lot of videos played painfully slow. Briefly, the server revealed a telling MySQL error message.

My own entry, the Dream Meme, was on the 13th place, but now dropped to 17. Here’s the current top 10:
