HP in China Will Ship With Baidu.com

This would’ve been a screenshot of Baidu, except they blocked me for searching for “falung gong”.

The Inquirer reports that HP has made a deal with Chinese search engine Baidu to make their homepage a default on HP PCs shipping in China. The deal will run a year starting in October 2006. Bad for Google, who tries hard to get a hold of the Chinese market (including compromising their principles), good for Baidu (who, we can assume, doesn’t have that many principles to begin with... try enter “falun gong” into their search engine Update: It’s possible this is a block outside of Baidu’s power). On the other hand, Google scored a similar deal with Dell to become the default search engine on their computers.
