How to Get Birthday Reminders on Android?

I’ve recently got a G1 Android mobile phone, so used the occasion to update my Google/ Gmail contacts. Among other things, I’ve diligently updated the birthdays of my contacts, like one should!

My problem now: How can I turn the birthday dates of my contacts into e.g. a calendar (or be reminded about them in some other way)?

Did I miss something or didn’t Google include a functionality for this?

Does anyone know?
