Here's my take on it: Google's dominance and popularity goes orbital, folks start referring to Google as 'the G'. Simplified for the masses. It retains a 'playfulness' by keeping to non-capitalised letters and the various hues of colours. I was going to put "Life starts here" as their new motto/mantra but it's not something Google would do/say blatantly so I've changed it to "it starts here", where 'it' could refer to anything (email, calendar, web, search etc.). And I've kept it 'subdued' to reduce the emphasis of the message (hey, nobody wants a major backlash! LOL!) messhaibooyah.googlepages.com/ ...

Cool logos! Roger Browne, I like yours the best so far. Very creative hearkening of the LOVE artwork. It makes me think about what the Google logo would look like in other artists' famous styles or pieces. Hmm, I wonder what that would look like?

lol.. utterly talentless.. No, seriously. Criteria: Redesign the Google Logo 90% of you haven't designed anything new about the logo at all, just re-hashed whats already there. Those that have, wouldn't stand a hope in hell of being taken seriously.

Regarding the logo above: "The dark blue letters reflect the smooth efficiency of Google's computers and of their well-oiled corporate machinery, set off by the colorful background which represents the underlying playfulness that pervades the Googleplex. The orange centers of the two letter O's are the centers of Google's all-seeing eyes, a reminder that nothing digital is ever far from the gaze of the Googlebot. We should not fear the eyes, for they are on the line that contains only letters from the word GOOD; but the bottom line holds a more sombre warning, because two letters from EVIL show up there."
