I can see Japan, too... did I miss this news or is it new and unannounced? |

Glad to see this being rolled out in more places, just waiting for the UK now. :) |

Now, nobody can't say that Google used Chevrolets or Opels for mapping Japan : img501.imageshack.us/img501/43 ...

Very Cool...Too bad they didn't use the high res camera like in France! |

The UK cant be too far behind : I have spotted numerous StreetView cars here in Norwich! |

Wow, the Australian coverage is pretty impressive – the Hyden Norseman road is covered, which is basically a dirt track in the middle of nowhere, and you can see the plume of dust behind the card. In Perth the images seem to be a few months old. |

StreetAdvisor.com.au is live with what we think is the first implementation of Google StreetView in Australia. |

IIRC, Maboo is the widest Internet cafe chain in Tokyo. I still have my card from when I went there. :-) |

I wonder why Google Maps doesn't cover South Korea yet. I'm not talking about street view – there seems to be no map data for the whole peninsula. I can't even look up city names. These kind of data can not be restricted, as there are south korean map services like maps.naver.com/, which provide detailled information. Is Google Maps facing legal problems in South Korea or does it simply avoid being in competition with map services that are already on a high level of development? |

Also: << As if that was not enough, we're also extending our coverage in the US with over 30 new cities including New Orleans (LA), Baton Rouge (LA), El Paso (TX), Wichita (KS), Savannah (GA), and Colorado Springs (CO). And to give you even more of a reason to explore Street View, we've hidden a special surprise somewhere in our US imagery so keep your eyes peeled as you take in the views! >>
What do you think the suprise is? |

A lot of people (Google employees?) are lining up near the Googleplex, is that old or is that the easter egg?

That's old, it dates from the original launch of street view. |
James ![[PersonRank 0] [PersonRank 0]](image/postrank/0.gif) | 1 year ago # |
Oh, that might be new, it's the other side of the campus from where the launch group was, which was 1642 Charleston Rd (approx) and that's now got a proposal – "Marry Me Leslie". gadgets.fosfor.se/google-maps- ... has an image from the launch. |
Colin Colehour ![[PersonRank 10] [PersonRank 10]](image/postrank/10.gif) | 1 year ago # |
LOL, if you move around the street outside the main campus, you see lots of googler's on bikes and then this scene: maps.google.com/maps?cbp=1,354 ... |

There's at least 2 fight scenes in the pics of the Google Street View on Charleston Road, outside the main street of all of the Google Buildings in Mountain View. |

That easter egg type picture is old and I think I have seen this picture on this forum too :) |
Philipp Lenssen ![[PersonRank 10] [PersonRank 10]](image/postrank/10.gif) | 1 year ago # |
Juha-Matti did you see the two comments by James above? blogoscoped.com/forum/137276.h ... |
TOMHTML ![[PersonRank 10] [PersonRank 10]](image/postrank/10.gif) | 1 year ago # |
Juha-Matti : the original easter egg has been removed by Google several weeks ago, and now there is another one.
The great thing with this update is that I'll be able to update my map of Google signs in Google Street View :) maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF ...

jf ![[PersonRank 5] [PersonRank 5]](image/postrank/5.gif) | 1 year ago # |
Stefan Krämer : its quite possible that's because of the North Korea v South Korea security situation.
you see a similar thing in Israel/Palestine – there's no mapping there either.

The new imagery round the Googleplex looks like it's using the highest resolution we've seen yet on street view. Anybody agree?
Could this be a test for a new type of camera?
Also, they are obviously not using the face blurring technology on this patch, or the vehicle number plate blurring. Should they have kept this feature on? |
Juha-Matti Laurio ![[PersonRank 10] [PersonRank 10]](image/postrank/10.gif) | 1 year ago # |
Philipp etc.: Yes I did, but too quickly :-(Thanks for sharing, I know the recent state of easter eggs now.

> The new imagery round the Googleplex looks like it's using > the highest resolution we've seen yet on street view. > Anybody agree?
In the beginning for San Francisco, they had hi-res imagery all around – look at the zoom slider, which has 4 not 3 marks: blogoscoped.com/files/street-v ...
Right now in places like Tokyo, even though there's 3 marks on the zoom, it doesn't look like a real zoom feature that would increase quality (it just blows up the normal picture, resulting in low quality). |
