The Ten Web Commandments

What do you want?

As another year nears its end, a simple web site asks a simple question: What do you want to do with your life? (The higher the amount of people wanting the same thing, the bigger it will appear on the page.)

KnowItAllVideo’s Conflicting Terms

Eric Alterman (founder of KnowItAllVideo) comments KnowItAllVideo.com does not require you to give up your rights to material you sent in; I previously mentioned this. But I was pretty sure giving up my rights to the material was just what stopped me uploading it (that, and the 4 MB limit). So I checked again, and indeed both Eric and I are right and KnowItAllVideo has two different terms of service (emphasis mine):

“In consideration for use of the Service, you hereby grant KNOWITALLVIDEO, its successors, licensees or assignees, a perpetual, non-revocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, distribute, modify, adapt, sell, license, sublicense, translate, publish, display, broadcast, display, perform, or otherwise transmit (i) Your Content (including but not limited to all videos uploaded by you or by those authorized by you to upload your videos) ...”
Terms (static link from the site)

“In consideration for use of the Service, you hereby grant KNOWITALLVIDEO, its successors, licensees or assignees, a perpetual, non-revocable, exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, distribute, modify, adapt, sell, license, sublicense, translate, publish, display, broadcast, display, perform, or otherwise transmit (i) Your Content (including but not limited to all videos uploaded by you or by those authorized by you to upload your videos) ...”
Terms (the one you need to approve prior to uploading your material)

Update: Eric contacted the site’s webmaster, and they said they will quickly change all terms to read nonexclusive.
