Google Maps

Google today in their Google Labs introduced Google Maps. This new service lets users “view maps, get driving directions, and search for local businesses and services.” Google offers a Google Maps tour if you’d like to see an overview of what the site can do for you. At the moment the service does seem to be US-only. Even though the Google Map help only lists Internet Explorer 5.5+ as supported browser, I had no problems at all using it with Firefox.

A nice feature Google emphasizes is the ability to drag parts of the map. This means you can easily move to any direction if you’re not happy with the exact spot you’re on.

As another bonus, the search results from Google Local are integrated into the map. So to find a pizza place all you need to is type in “pizza in Chicago”. Pizza places will then show at different locations on the map, with phone numbers to the right.
