PubSub publishes their Top 1000 Blogs list.

SurfWax LookAhead

Zip Codes on Google Maps

Maps.huge.info lets you view zip code ranges projected on a Google Map. There was a bug when I tried the application; I could click in an area to find a zip code area, but I couldn’t enter a zip code (like [10118]), because the app would always tell me “Area clicked not defined by a zip code.” Googler Matt Cutts discusses the application.

Satoogle

Satoogle is like Google Maps for a face (it’s as weird as it sounds). [Thanks Tadeusz.]

Google 7th Birthday Logo

The Google logo is offering 7 pieces of cake (1 for every year Google Inc exists). Google is a little too late, though: as they state themselves, “Google’s official birthday is September 7, 1998.”

And I’m not sure if this is related, but Google is now omitting to state the index size on the homepage. In their help entry on their index size, Google says:

“At Google we believe the essential quality of an index isn’t the total number of documents, but its comprehensiveness – which unique documents are in the index. So we don’t count duplicate or uncrawled pages. According to our internal testing, our newly expanded search index is more than three times larger than that of any other search engine.”

To get an idea of how big the Google page count really is, try searching for [* *] – though no one knows for sure if that’s the real size.

Update: A lot of people are saying “Happy Birthday, Google.

Update 2: Feel free to join the birthday chat.
