Gmail Deletes Trash

Either Gmail changed the way they’re calculating what counts against your storage limit, or they indeed emptied the trash today. Andrew Hitchcock reports, “I just logged into to Gmail and noticed half a gig of stuff was gone. I looked in the trash and sure enough they finally deleted it.”

I was eager to see if the same happened to my Gmail account – which was at around 80% yesterday – and indeed, I’m now at only 20%. I still have over 18,000 emails in my trash can and over 13,000 in my spam folder, though, and even when Google said “messages that have been in Trash more than 30 days will be automatically deleted” (same for spam) I could so far never see that happening.

If you too were worried about your Gmail storage lately, take a look and check what happened.
