The Deck Ads

Andy Baio of Waxy.org co-founds a new cool advertising network by the name of The Deck. I immediately noticed the first ad on Andy’s link blog today. The premise of this ad network?

• Advertisers must like the product they’re advertising (e.g. they’ve bought it or used it)
• There’s only one ad per page, and while it’s a graphic (plus text), it’s never animated
• Ads are sold not on a “cost-per-thousand” but a “cost-per-influence” model

Partner sites of The Deck at this time include A List Apart (Jeffrey Zeldman), 37signals (Jason Fried), Daring Fireball (John Gruber), and Waxy’s link blog (Andy Baio)... highly influential sites, I’d say. There’s a focus on web coding and design pros, but I could see this model being expanded to other kind of niche blogs. The model is clearly about trust (you only advertise good stuff), transparency (I like the Deck homepage, which contains all the info – along with pricing – on a single page), and relevancy yet unobtrusiveness (only one non-animated ad per page).
