Googlebot Deletes Pages

There are some rules to web development security, for example, do not change by GET but only by POST, and never rely on client-side security but always server-side security. If you don’t follow guidelines like these, with a little bit of bad luck, even someone as innocent as the Googlebot might come along to delete all your pages. Alex Papadimoulis in “The Spider of Doom” writes:

“Josh [Breckman] was called in to investigate and noticed that one particularly troublesome external IP had gone in and deleted all of the content on the system. The IP didn’t belong to some overseas hacker bent on destroying helpful government information. It resolved to, Google’s very own web crawling spider. Whoops.”
