Images Next to AdSense

Some people put images next to Google AdSense trying to increase the click rate. I just came across this very interesting example on d-a-l.com – it uses icons on both sides of the ad boxes, and also stacks two of them on top of each other (added to that these ads occupied most of the page as they were positioned above the content):
