Google Calendar SMS Notifications in More Countries

Google Calendar – which recently added a couple of new interface languages – now supports SMS notifications for countries like Sweden, Germany, Malaysia, Switzerland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Zimbabwe and many more. To use this feature log in to Google Calendar, then go to Settings -> Notifications, enter your phone number and choose your carrier (like T-Mobile). You can then send yourself a verification code which will arrive promptly; enter it in the verification code box to finish the setup. Now also make sure to tick the “Event reminders - SMS” box and that you enable the right timing for events (e.g. 2 hours before the event, or a day before it...).

A typical event reminder will look like this:

From: 0
Reminder: Event title @ Wed Sep 20 16:00 - 17:00 (1 hr)

Google notes that “Std charges apply for each reminder” without being more specific.
