The Google Goose

The installation at Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier

The Google Goose game by the Austrian art group Or-Om works in the following 8 steps, according to the group’s pamphlet:

  1. Go to Google Images
  2. Let your goose (or dog, cat, chicken, rabbit) speed over the keyboard
  3. You’ll get a combination of characters, like “q´0+34” – hit Enter.
  4. Use the “large images” setting
  5. You get the first couple of images, save all of them in a separate graphic file
  6. If you don’t get any pictures, delete the last character of the query and hit Enter again – continue until you get some images
  7. Continue to delete the query’s respective last character for more and more images
  8. Optionally, include all the images found on the page the image is taken from as well
