The Viagra Connection

Fasten your seatbelts, here’s something *cough* revelatory.

Who’s #1 for the search query [buy cheap viagra online to attract wild attention]? That’s right, it’s Google’s Matt Cutts.

Who’s #1 for the search query [buy viagra for tight relationship]? Barry Schwartz, of Search Engine Roundtable.

And the search query [i get bored and want valuable viagra for cash]? Yep, this blog you’re looking at ranks top in Google.com.

The query [good drug exactly like official viagra]? The #1 spot is inhibited by Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land.

OK, you guessed it by now, there is no Viagra connection. Neither Matt, Barry, Danny or me have any special optimization going on for this word, it just happened to be mentioned on one of our pages.

You too can construct these kind of weird top ranks for almost any site and word by using a simple method: decide on a word you want to go for, like “viagra”, and do a site search (like site:searchengineland.com viagra). Now open one of the top pages containing that word, read through it, and start to construct a new search query that contains the target word (“viagra”) as well as other words from that specific article... and simply keep changing the query until you pulled the target article into the top position.
Completely meaningless, I agree, but perhaps it makes for a good surprise for a friend of yours...

[Thanks Ionut!]
