250,000 page views. Wow. I wonder how many gadgets meet this criteria?

Google's usage of the word "page views" can be confusing in the context of gadgets – a single page view of the iGoogle homepage where a user does nothing but use the Google search box can yield a dozen gadget views, if a dozen gadgets are included (and many of us use the Google homepage many times a day). It's about as meaningful as calling hits to an AJAX back-end script which generates an XML "page views"... it's inflated when you think of page view as the traditional page view.

(I asked Google's Douwe Osinga about this at the Google Developer Day in Hamburg, and he said, well other tools, like AdSense, also work like that, you can include them anywhere on the page... but then I told him that Google doesn't pay for *page views* for that simple reason, but they pay for clicks, because most users ignore the ad most of the time.)

The iGoogle directory shows stats... here's one that would probably qualify:
46,570,686 pageviews
http://www.google.com/ig/directory?root=/ig&dpos=top&num=24&url=http://homepages.ipact.nl/~kruit/benno/folder/Documents/Google/wpsearchbar.xml
A Wikipedia Search and Go widget. Language choice.
Benno Kruit – Delft, The Netherlands

(Though the directory doesn't seem to specify the *time frame* of these pageviews... this is weird, they should mention e.g. "per month" or "per week" next to the number.)

Huh! That's a new metric. I have a mildly popular widget (Cricket Map) so I occasionally check my 'Officially unofficial Google stats'. Last time I checked they showed 'average weekly hits'.

Right. Figured it out. Gogole has two pages for almost the same thing.
- The Homepage Content Directory, and the
- Google Gadgets for Your Webpage directory.

The metrics for the wiki search widget is:
- 45,570,686 pageviews per week (GGfyW)
- 1,065,080 users / 46,570,686 pageviews (HCD)

For my cricket widget (http://www.google.com/ig/directory?root=/ig&dpos=top&num=24&url=http://software.intervention.com.au/GDS/igCricketMap.xml&q=cricket&start=0)
- 6,823 pageviews per week (GGfyW)
- < 1,000 users / < 10,000 pageviews (HCD)
- 4,700 pageviews / week (avg over the last month) (Google Analtytics)
- 3,000 visits / week (avg over the last month) (Google Analtytics)
