I've had this before and it drives me insane. I found the only way to get rid of it, is to select All Items and click Mark All As Read a couple of times, it eventually goes away. |

In fact, you have really no new item to read, it's just a bug from the "Show X new item" area :-/

Thats an issue with other Google products too
Orkut is the best example of it
It says 4 scraps when there are non
count of friends is always more by 4-5
same for messages

If I just push the refresh button, it will show me the new one, and I can read it. |
