A new online game based on google maps started last week. It's called placespotting and it's (oviously) about spotting places on earth. You get a satellite picture and some hints and have to find the place on a google map.

New map riddles can be created and sent to friends.

Hi, at the moment we have 620 stored riddles, 8815 solutions and 72604 views... And I hope that is just the beginning ;-)

Not bad but maybe not enough to sell it to Google ;-)

... maybe. But if everybody posts a link in his favourite blog or forum we could increase the number of riddles!!!

What do you think about the site. What has to be improoved, and what other features are needed?

I already got a wish list:
- geocoding field
- enabling of scroll wheel
- sorting by zoom level

I will try to implement these features in the next one or two versions...

- the scroll wheel can be used to zoom in and out
- search results can be sorted by zoom level
- an expandable help bar
- some minor changes in the design
