Zoho, a competitor of Google Docs, is releasing offline functionality before Google does and Zoho uses Google Gears to do this...
As read on... http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/08/21/zoho-goes-offline-in-a-good-way/ |
This is pretty big, and I wonder what's taking Google so long to integrate this into Google Docs. Gears has been out for quite a while now and somehow Reader is the only service that was able to integrate it quickly?
I'm still waiting for both Docs and Gmail to get this offline functionality. And maybe Calendar as well. Hopefully it won't be too much longer. |
I think Google's presentation team is work is almost complete as they have removed the NeoTonic Help Template from http://docs.google.com/support/presentations |
The Zoho developers are pretty smart, I think.
Wonder if Google will blog about this in any of their official blogs, it's certainly Google Gears newsworthy, but they're kinda conflicted in their interest here. |
I think that Google is working on a complete functionality. Zoho is smart by releasing only a small read only functionality & announcing more functionality in the coming weeks. That's what they call marketing ;-)

Eric Schmidt promises lots of things, hold on. |
Edit: I changed

Obviously, Google did it (http://gearsblog.blogspot.com/2007/08/gearing-up-with-zoho-offline.html). The blog has a limited audience and there aren't too many Gears apps. Besides, competition is good for business. |
It's also a featured project on Google Code.

Thanks for the post, Philipp! Dion Almaer did an interview with Zoho as well :-)
