it seems that nearly all foreign search engines are abducted to baidu.com...

Philipp Lenssen [PersonRank 10]

even www.google.cn? what about www.google.com?

Ken Wong [PersonRank 5]

google.com and google.cn are still alive, but blogsearch.google.cn is down and blogsearch.google.com is hijacked, redirected to Baidu.

Most likely due to the fact that Bush gave this award to a person PRC dislikes today.

Once URL contains "search",the page will be redirected to Baidu.com

GFW is updating. Yesterday, many sites that already blocked can be visited.

Youtube is still blocked in Beijing. However I don't think yahoo, live, google are being redirected to baidu anymore.

Barry Schwartz at Search Engine Land writes:

"[W]e think it's likely that China is upset with the US over the award it granted to the Dalai Lama and is retaliating by hurting US-based search engines."

China's war against technology is one the worst deterrents to civilization in the present days

Dalai not related with Search engines. The only reason is the China Great Fire Wall updating.

Xiaowan, how do you know?

This was a problem due to DNS poisoning. Even if you use a proxy, more than likely your DNS requests will not be "protected". The problem seems to have gone away now.

LOL great post and yes all major US portals were hacked yesterday...(someones smoking the hype pipe)

I do use the search engines though.....and China is not going to wake up at 1:00 am <---- and mess with IP settings

Clue boys & girls you have a BHO installed redirecting your browser.

This is ridiculous. Rest of world should boycott all the chinese sites!

Damn!!

At the VERY LEAST! EVERY AMERICAN should BOYCOTT anything and everything from China! We need to bring all our manufacturing back home! It's not that it's cheaper, we're loosing our know-how because they are copying everything we send them to make for us! They hold so much US debt it's un-real.

www.americaneconomicalert.org/view_art.asp?Prod_ID=2825

We are at war, A Proxy War with China and Russia! via Iran in Iraq. They are closing in on us ... we need to act soon! If it's not already too late!

lolwut [PersonRank 0]

bwhahahaha. the problem isn't who is holding the debt...it is who creates it.

i don't lose know-how...i only gain. try it.

If China attacks private foreign interest,
in retaliation for things like awards to
religious leaders they protest, then it
seems an awfully unsafe place for any foreign
Business to invest.

Well its strange, some of us South Africans can't search using Yahoo either. The other listed search engines are ok. I've posted on this (http://craign.net/2007/10/18/whats-up-my-china/), interested in some feedback.

Baidu or its partners in PRC government had done similar things many times in last 7 years through various means. First for popularity, now and then for showing the power of PRC/CCP that they can do whatever they want to abuse your freedom of getting info, and make you living in mainland China be afraid.

I seriously doubt China is blocking everything as all you jaded yankees seem to think. It has been mentioned on several occasions that the country wide firewall is being updated. I have no doubts all connectivity will be restored soon enough. Amazing how fast the haters want to jump on the anti-china bandwagon.... If you hate China so much why come here? Why not stay in America in your little slice of utopia with your rose tinted glasses and wait for the home invasion or drive by that is obviously MUCh worse than losing your internet connection to porn. Don''t like Chinese internet, fine, heaps of other countries out there.... Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Clearly China is a bad partner for any company. They cannot be relied upon to protect a corporations intellectual property. This is massive violation of others intellectual property.

The redirection may be caused by the CCP Congress happening this week.

I've asked Google and they tell us:

<<We've had numerous reports that blogsearch.google.cn and other search engines were inaccessible in China yesterday and traffic redirected to other sites. While this was clearly unfortunate, we are pleased that service has been restored to our users.>>

To InformationWeek Google said "we've seen this happen before".

Maybe that's a signal to censor Blog Search, YouTube and other sites.

This is gonna get ugly. I've spent money to make a nice youtube channel and took me months to have a full vlog. I'm so pissed off you can't imagine. I want youtube back! If they really must pains in the ass, can't they just block chinese people from surfing? WTF does that have to do with me? I pay for my fkn internet connection and no commie tells me where to surf or not.

Ben [PersonRank 0]

This is what usually happens when you don't prioritize freedom of speech and label it as "useless for the masses"

And you are only seeing the tip of the iceberg: tons of data-center has been shutdown lately in mainland, and pressure on webmasters for self-censorship (the form of censorship that REALLY matters) has been harshened.

Welcome to China.

Ant, what a [personal attack removed] you really must be. If all the westerners left china, you will have to go back to farming rice like you did for 4000 years. While the westerners progressed and eventually went to the moon and back, china lay in darkness.

Yes, Youtube is blocked in China, and its the CCP doing it....

Daniel Dink [PersonRank 1]

They can kiss my free ass cos I'm leaving next june. Let them keep posing as commies but not on my time. Blocking youtube? They can take a good look at my ass and BLOCK THIS.

Daniel Dink [PersonRank 1]

Yankee In China, that Ant is probably a POSER. I havn't met in 7 years here anyone who can speak english better than me. He's not chinese.

Daniel Dink [PersonRank 1]

You must know that, Surfing the internet in China is like running while having a cactus lodged in your ass. It's nothing but PAIN. LOLOL and they even talk about becoming a world's power? The best thing to do is to tear it apart and rebuilt it.

when is youtube back is it ever gonna be back

ant [PersonRank 1]

Hey dink,

Actually, I am not Chinese, thats true. One of the very few foreigners here who has come to grips with the fact I am not back home and therefore attempting to learn about this culture and become part of it instead of 90% of the other westerners here who whine and complain like spoiled little brats because they expect China to bow down to them (Oh mighty westerners!!!)

If having a couple websites blocked for a short time is such a damn hassle, please do go back to where ever you came from. You will get no tears from me. Though I would gladly come to see you off at the airport and tell you what I really think.....

Don't let you cheat you this time. You pay for your internet connection, you have the right to go wherever you want. Just get yourself FIREFOX and download the TOR addon from the Modzila page. get your asses back on Youtube.
