Did you really personally interview him!? You’re on the beat from Germany faster than the US news industry..

I commend your posts and two thumbs up to you for the perfect interview of the human Internet worm. Because, he is the worm. You are what you create.

The guy should be hired by Google or Yahoo and put his skills to better and safer assignments before he does something that will not be funny.

They are so comsumed with loading the ads from the servers it takes forever to load a page. I like to use firefox and opening more than 3 myspace windows will crash firefox. [Unrelated link to porn site removed. -Ed.]

Really enjoyed this interview, Philipp. Great work, great questions. I didn't really get this story until I saw this article. Talented guy, albeit humble. His technical accomplishments on the myspace worm are something he should be proud of.... Ignoring the ethical and social issues of course :) But hats off to Philipp and thanks to Samy for the candid answers!

Amazing how the guy walked his code past the system and opened up the issue of security on social networking websites for everyone to see. OK, it was a prank, this time, but it shows up how much work needs to be done to stop manipulation of what will be a dominant concept for years to come. Another warning to business, ecommerce and networking sites that "stuff" can happen quickly. Money quote motto; Never go out for a burrito.

Samy actually has an account of what happened on his webpage (funniest shit ever....... after TuckerMax mebbe)... there's also a link in the interview to how he did it.... the link's also

http://namb.la/popular – is his account of the story.
http://namb.la/popular/tech.html – is how he did it including steps through the probs he came across and the code itself.

The fact that he didn't script anything malicious is nifty. It's kind of funny when you really think about it. In one day only, Samy became the 2nd most popular guy on MySpace. The only reason Tom is #1 is because he's automatically added to every new user's friends list.

Congrats on your success of sorts Samy-I myself am 19 and still learning as well. Don't know much of JavaScript and coding on a whole, but I intend to.

Quite an acheivement in your spare time. Great things come out of small opportunities :)

YEA thanks to Sammy's idiotic joke, now we can't edit our pages anymore. Nice job moron. YEA so he's smart that he figured it out, but why ruin it for everyone? They should have areested the jerk! Instead of taking away embeded tags in our pages. This site just won't be the same now that we can't add our OWN personality to our pages! THAT JUST SUCKS

Its not samys fault your pages dont work. QUIT PUTTING SO MUCH HTML ON YOUR SITES. it slows down the system. Dont complina here, it isnt going to do anything. Tell the all mighty TOM.

(yeah it was a worm and it got some people mad but you got skills)

The guy still doesn't understand what he has done: "and to possibly cause real harm". Bringing down a service with more than a million users and a web company isn't considered "real" harm by him.

He didnt cause any harm myspace collects data on users and sells it to others. Sure they dont sell emails or your private info but the data they collect makes sales globably increase 10 fold at least. Fox owns it and uses it to promote their crap. and the united states government supports it because they have rights to that information. So i say nice job for giving myspace something to stop. Myspace has never been a friend meeting tool or created for any free purpose the adds you see are to make it look like thats how the site is payed. but truely it is payed for by the government, fox, and people buying demographics and sales data. Dont be fooled into thinking myspace is anything but a big giant sales pitch.

Yeah, fo sho.

MySpace may make lots of money from advertisements, but that doesn't mean they are involved in anyway with data harvesting. A group of my friends and I are in with the right people, and we actually got to examine the coding that keeps MySpace up and running.

There are no intentions what so ever of keeping information for promotional reasons, and MySpace does NOT SELL any information it collects.

The collection of that information is just to keep user accounts running in an organized way.

Dude you're my hero for sure! That's got to be the most severe worm created by mere JavaScript. Bravo! *claps*

I was wondering.. Is Samy linked to the 'Flying Spaghetti Monster"? He seems to have the exact code Samy did.
