Google unveiled a new feature in Google Maps today. http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2007/11/think-globally-mark-locally.html you can now move the marker to the correct location. For example if you house is marked on the wrong side of the street and can pull the marker to your house. http://maps.google.com/help/maps/edit/promo.html#utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-mapshpp-na-us-google&utm_medium=mapshpp&utm_term=edit

I did notice that you can't edit the White House location.

Weird.

Anybody else find other places where you can't edit the location? (Yes you could edit Google. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=1600+Amphitheatre+Pkwy,+Mountain+View,+CA+94043&sll=25.944939,-80.180022&sspn=0.01123,0.017209&ie=UTF8&ll=37.423088,-122.088103&spn=0.009918,0.024247&t=k&z=16&iwloc=addr&om=1 And it is constantly getting edited.)

Another weird thing.

After you change the location of someplace it doesn't show when you get directions to that place.

So much for knowing where the party is!!!!

Garett Rogers pointed out (http://blogs.zdnet.com/Google/?p=814) that you can't move businesses but you could move that address. Meaning there is a Pizza Hut at 3451 W Devon Ave, Chicago, IL 60659. Search for Pizza Hut in 60659 and you will get the store in middle of the street. But if you search for 3451 W Devon Ave, Chicago, IL 60659, you will get the store itself, where it was moved.

That explains why you can't move the White House but you could move Google. When I searched for the white House – I just typed in White House as a business. If you type in 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington DC you will be able to move that location. (It has been moved already.) Search for the White House and it is it's original place. When I searched for Google I typed in 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway. That you could move since it's an address not a business.

Good catch Garett!

(That just gets me thinking. Google's address is 1600 Amp...... White House's address is 1600 Pen..... Coincidence? Hmmm. Google. White House. I should stop thinking.)

Why does that make it a bad point?

You can, but only if the owner didn't claim the business in LBC.

I'm not deneying that. It's still a good point. :)
