I just opened a gmail account 2 days ago. Only 4 or 5 friends have sent me emails. This afternoon my account was disabled. I have never heard of such incident. My friend who invited me to join Gmail spoke highly of the server. Why is this happening? Is there any way to get it reinstated?

I know it's a bit early to draw this conclusion but are we noticing a trend? Two reports of this in one less than ten hours. I hope this isn't becoming a problem and if it is, that Google will take care of it immediately

Other reports around now seem to have to do with new accounts: there's a guy on AskMetafilter who set up a Gmail account for his grad school application and he's frantic because it's been disabled:
