Why is Wikapedia #1 in Google Hot Trends? http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends?sa=X&date=2008-1-15 |
lots of people go to wikipedia... |
The word is wik*a*pedia though... |
Maybe that's a common misspelling when people search for this after hearing on it on radio or something...
Or, Google is manually adjusting these stats (e.g. to remove adult stuff) but they screwed up with a manual edit, introducing a spelling error. Happened with the (definitely semi-manual) Google Zeitgeist reports before :) |
BTW, it's gone now but it's still at #3 for yesterday:

Perhaps they group common spellings together and just take the first spelling alternative alphabetically? |

No, Wikipedia is a popular search term and it wouldn't normally appear in Hot Trends. I also think a lot of people heard some news about Wikipedia and tried to find the site. Maybe this one: http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/generalnews/display.var.1961862.0.lecturer_bans_students_from_using_google_and_wikipedia.php

<<e.g. to remove adult stuff>> There's two mentions of "Sex Tape" :-/ |
I suppose it comes from a TV Show, which is typically the kind of source which generates a lot a traffic in a really short time. Maybe the TV show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" asking: "What is the name of the famous online encyclopedia?" >A : Wikapedia >B : Wokapidia >C : Wikipedia >D : Weepikedia
