Are you having fun digging around Google's support pages Beussery? ;-)

I'm not seeing that though. Is it still doing it for you?

Not seeing that either. That looks like Vietnamese to me, but I think that Google Help Center doesn't have a Vietnamese version.

The thing that interests me is that you saved the screenshot in TIFF format.

hahaha

nope it's all back to normal now but there seemed to be different text on a number of pages. I checked and what you see was actually in the code. During the same period of time, there was no upper left nav in Google's homepage. Any idea what the red text means?

Yeah, the tiff was for speed it is the default on a mac for "capture". The tiff is the original file. I then converted it using photoshop to jpg.

[put at-character here] Tony I still see no upper left nav:

That cached link is for this page which doesn't have the top nav:

http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=eN (note the uppercase "N")

Had you been messing around with language codes? If so, that would explain why you were getting the red text. Check this out:

http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769&hl=eN

The red text you saw before says:

<< This Help Center isn't currently available in your language. However, you can select another language from the "Change Language" drop-down menu in the top right of the page. >>

Your preferred language is sometimes stored in your cookie, so you don't necessarily need to have it added to the URL either.

Exactly. That has the "hl=vi" parameter which means you're trying to view the support article in Vietnamese which isn't available. Assuming Vietnamese is your language, Google displays that message in your language so that you can choose another language from the drop down.

Ok cool! Haven't changed any language settings don't know what happened mac 10.4.11 FireFox 2.0.0.12. I'm at work now but had a similar issue as seen in my original post last night from home of the non-english version link in my "No Index for Images" post.

Both macs had a software update yesterday pm and I've been seeing weird stuff like this since that time???? not sure what is going on!

Either way, thanks for the help!

It's always been PNG for me, since day one.

Come on now, stop pulling my leg! :)

"Grab" only saves as TIFF

I've been out sick since Friday. I come back only to find out that either I'm losing my mind, seeing things or Google's been hacked but oh yeah no of the above are actually true, it's that my computers now speak Vietnamese an input which isn't enabled? Still trying to figure this out....

[put at-character here]beussery, PNG is the format that 'Grab' always uses for me too. Do you have any 3rd party plugins that alter 'Grab' settings?

according to "Grab Help":

"Grab saves screen shots as files in TIFF format. If you want to use your screen shots on the web, in email, or in a word processor, you can use the Preview application to convert the TIFF files to other formats, such as JPEG or PICT.

Open Preview (located in Applications) and choose File > Open.
Locate the file you want to convert and click Open.
Choose File > Save As.
Choose a file format from the Format pop-up menu and click Save.
You can also use third-party applications to open and convert TIFF files created in Grab."

[put at-character here]beussery, You are correct, GRAB does save as TIFF.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh364.html

Haochi and I were talking about the functionality of when you use Command-Shift-4 or similar key combo to take a screenshot that gets saved to a PNG file. The Grab utitlity is slightly different cause you have to open it from the application menu and it saves as TIFF files.
