Just noticed this interesting picture linked on a forum I visit: http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/8971/17243002lk7.png
It seems to be some kind of expansion of the experimental timeline-based search.

That dropdown lets you restrict the results to pages first indexed by Google in the past day/month/year etc. There's no experiment and no hidden feature.
"I'm not exactly sure how I got this. But I think I went from the news section of Google to web section."
Easy. That fellow restricted the news stories to "last day" and then clicked on the link to web results. Google kept the time-related preference. The same goes for Blog Search. |
This is available in advanced search options. |
I think it's a different issue here:
- go to Google News and search for "bush"
- restrict the results to the last day – http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&tab=wn&ned=&q=bush&ie=UTF-8&as_drrb=q&as_qdr=d&as_mind=27&as_minm=4&as_maxd=28&as_maxm=4
- click on "web"
- you're supposed to see: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ned=&q=bush&ie=UTF-8&as_drrb=q&as_qdr=d&as_mind=27&as_minm=4&as_maxd=28&as_maxm=4&sa=N&tab=nw
- you can also click on "blogs" and the restriction is preserved |
