I was trying to figure out why Neil Gaiman mentions his children so often but never his wife, and accidentally came across this:

It could easily be old and I just missed it, but I feel like the little exclamation point is new.

It has been discovered a month ago.

Is there an index of such things anywhere so that repeat 'discoveries' can be more easily avoided? I would have researched it first, but short of reading every forum thread ever, I'm not sure how I would have found out that it was already known. I don't remember reading about it on the main blog, perhaps I just forgot or it wasn't noteworthy enough.

Yes, we call it "Google Blogoscoped" ;)

Tsk, tsk, TOMHTML. Fact is, neither Blogoscoped posting-filter check, nor site search returns much usable content to judge whether some topic has been posted/ discussed in the past. The first is a bit too elementary for my liking, relying on (I think, Philipp only knows ;-)) subject keyword search only, no attempts to find out if any url strings already appeared on the site – which'd have sounded more logick to me, even if not all posts carry urls, of course.

The second doesn't return any Forum posts at all, though it may be a local error at my end (reading/ posting this from a PDA. ?Why? Wrong question. Correct answer: why not.)

Then again, unless Personman would have researched prev topics for many alt. "Google quote us[ag]e" patterns, quite a stretch from his vantage point, I doubt his item would've been flagged anyway....

Comments from "Google Turns Quoted Search Into Unquoted One If Nothing’s Found" http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2008-04-03-n55.html included some discussion about this.

The "yellow_warning.gif" may be found in the following google directories.

   "checkout.google.com/img"
