I don't know the in's and out's of this scenario, but I've created a group on Facebook that you can join to support Google Friend Connect getting unbanned...

Well I joined, but I doubt it will do any good :-) |
Hah! Facebook is run by clueless twits, and your group can't fix that. |
I don't care if it's hopeless. I joined anyways. Never can hurt to try. |
How Google Friend Connect Works post by Google:
It's a good post explaining what data Google Friend Connect uses and how long that data lasts on Google Servers. It pretty much explains that Google is following Facebook's rules for their developer api. Yet, Facebook still believes that Google is violating Facebook's rules and that Google is redistributing user information to other developers without the user's knowledge.

So they say |
Hi Google, its Facebook, we need to talk....

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in that article: <<Part of the issue with Google's Friend Connect is that when users grant access to Google's product, Google might share their information with another application, or some part of it, maybe not all of it, without that user knowing. And part of what makes our system work is that people know exactly who they are sharing all their information with>>
Except their system doesn't always work like that – Tony and I were able to join the supposedly Google-employee only Google network on Facebook, as we mentioned (http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2008-03-25-n14.html). While Facebook never responded to us when we alerted them to the issue, there was this notice at Facebook recently which indicates they do take this seriously though (without telling their users what happened, though, if this is indeed about the security/ privacy issue):
<<Network Pages will be discontinued soon
Facebook will soon be removing Network Pages from the site. While you will still be in your current networks, you will not be able to access Network Pages such as this one.
Please keep this in mind when communicating with others on the Wall and on the discussion board. You can use Groups to connect with the people around you.>>
Continiuing from the article above...
<<Zuckerberg contradicted Google Engineering Director David Glazer, who said last week in a phone interview with IDG News Service that Google had spoken to Facebook about the service prior to its launch.
"They launched that without asking us or talking to us about it first so we had no choice but to follow the rules that we had set forth for any developer on top of our platform and we followed them," said Zuckerberg. "But Google's a big player in the space and they make good things and our goal is to work with them to figure this out.">>
Someone must be lying then I guess? |
