Replace 2008 with 2020, and it sounds like the beginning of a scary science fiction novel.

How is the AI research being approached? I read a informative book a couple of years ago and I am less impressed with more and faster as the way to AI. A reworking of the theory itself and especialy the methods needed for true AI development are areas required or you will spin your wheels endlessly.

I'm looking for a synthetical reading on the technological singularity.
The SIAI has many recommendations here (there are 9 lists): http://www.singinst.org/reading but I don't know which one to pick (I don't know if a 1993 book remains relevant for an overview, and my scientific knowledge is quite "light").

Any suggestion?

Oops, I just realized that there's a link to this previous post http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2005-11-09-n45.html

I'll come back if I need further readings :)
