Google really needs money... |
Actually, the ads are displayed on every page and they're financial-related, but not contextual to a page.
Discussion here: http://finance.google.com/group/google.finance.694653/browse_thread/thread/14bb9c0f23a814ff?pli=1 |
Ionut It seems to me that those ads are contextually targeted: AAPL promotes the Apple Store, GOOG the Chrome browsere, EPA:FP shows "Oil Shares" ads, etc. |
Ionut, why specifically do you think they're not contextual? |
Official Google Blog post: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/11/ads-in-new-places.html
It's about more ads placements on the Google network (Google Image, News, Finance, Youtube).
<<Of course, these experiments benefit Google because they generate revenue from new sources — but by ensuring that we show the right ads at the right time to the right people, we'll add value for users too>>
It sounds like they're speeding up the monetization process. |
They look ugly it's like Yahoo now .. it looks like an engineer decided to add an ad box to the page overnight .. what kind of blending is that?! |
The box on the homepage is very bad, since it only displays "Win billions with Super Free advices!" ads because of no targeting.
I would accept those ads with a search for "how to be rich, while being stupid and doing nothing". But when I go on Google Finance, I don't expect that and I even feel insulted.
It one of my worst advertising experience on the Google network.
Besides, the ads on specific quote looks OK. It reminds me how targeting keep my Internets clean.

Right now, I see the same ad on all pages:
Dividend Investing 8 select dividend stocks on the buy list right now. Full report. www.InvestmentU.net/Dividend_Report |
Keith Chan I totally agree with you, actually that is what I was going to write. |
Man, google is getting sloppy. Not only are these ads ugly, but they screwed up the layout of the pages. The company descriptions are no longer viewable with a quick glance, you have to scroll down to the bottom of the page. Furthermore, when you scroll with your mouse wheel you adjust the size of the chart instead of going to the bottom of the page to read the description of the compan you're reasearching. Sloppy, sloppy, the description was one of the better features of google finance that set it apart from yahoo. Don't even get me started on how they screwed up the igoogle homepage.... |
<< AdWords Ads on Google Finance – with a twist!
Google is now running AdWords Ads on Google Finance (finance.google.com) Of course, all the ads are finance related. But there's a neat surprise..
If you do a stock quote on a company the AdWords ads that display are not finance, but for the industry sector of the company. In other words, AdWords knows what industry you're in based on your trading symbol and displays appropriate ads.
This is an interesting twist on matching ads to content. >>
